Outstanding Master's Thesis Award

The Graduate College is pleased to announce the 20th year of competition for the Outstanding Master's Thesis Award (including a Specialist degree thesis). This competition is intended to honor outstanding scholarship by UNI graduate students and to provide increased visibility for UNI graduate programs.

Nominees must have earned their master's degree between October 1, 2010 and September 30, 2011. The evaluation committee will include members of the Regular Graduate Faculty. Each thesis will be judged on the following criteria: clarity, scholarship, methodology, significance, and contribution to the field of study.

Three selections will be made for master's theses: a plaque and cash award of $200.00 for first place, $100.00 for second place, and $50.00 for third place. The evaluation committee may elect not to make an award.

Nominations for the competition are now being accepted. A single copy of the nominated work, a cover letter from the faculty thesis advisor, the current mailing address of the graduate student, and the student's one page resume must be submitted to the Graduate College Office by 5:00 PM, Monday, September 26, 2011. Decisions will be announced by December 5, 2011 and all works will be returned shortly thereafter.

The first place winner in the master's thesis competition will be the University's nominee in the Distinguished Master's Thesis Award competition sponsored by the Midwestern Association of Graduate Schools.
