Kim Chickering is a 2005 graduate of the MA Leisure, Youth and Human Services Administration program. She also received her BA from UNI in Communicative Disorders. She is currently the Assistant Director of Alumni Relations at Illinois State University, focusing on Student and Young Alumni Outreach. She advises the Student Alumni Council and serves as the liaison for Commencement, Preview, and Passages Orientation programs.
After receiving her MA, Kim worked as the Resource Development Director for Habitat for Humanity of McLean County, Illinois. Before graduation she hoped to find a job working in the non-profit sector, but she then realized, as she searched for jobs, how broad a field non-profit is. She feels very fortunate to have worked with Habitat for Humanity. Serving families was very fulfilling, as she worked on everything from counseling them on mortgages and building their houses to recruiting house sponsors. She found she missed the atmosphere of a college campus and a new job search led to her current position at Illinois State University.
Kim says UNI provided her with the skills and training she needed to succeed professionally. She found herself prepared for real life situations that required application of concepts from course work. Her time here helped her discover a passion for learning and education through the energy and atmosphere of University life. She also met her husband, Tanner, at UNI. They now have a future Panther, Quint, currently 14 months old. |
