Michael Girsch

Mike Girsch graduated with an M.A.E. in Postsecondary Education: Student Affairs in 2006. He also received his B.A. from UNI in 2000 in Electronic Media. After receiving his M.A.E. he was hired as Program Coordinator in the Study Abroad Office at Arizona State. He coordinates semester, academic year, and short-term faculty-directed programs in the UK, Ireland, and South America. He also serves as the incoming exchange student contact for students from those areas. Study abroad experiences at UNI began his interest in the field and gave him the necessary experience and skills. As an undergraduate he studied at the University of Wales, Swansea. During his graduate program he had experiences at the University of Liverpool, England and in UNI’s International Admissions.

Before beginning the M.A.E. program, Girsch worked with Kristi Marchesani in International Admissions to plan his career path. He recommends that graduate students get involved by taking advantage of a variety of learning experiences, such as practicums and internships. He says, “It will pay off after graduation.” He enjoys basketball and regularly played at the WRC while at UNI. Girsch now runs a summer basketball camp for at-risk kids in the Phoenix area.

This is a relatively new feature for The Graffito. We are hoping to continue expanding it in the future.

If you know alumni of a UNI graduate program who would be interesting to profile here, please contact Katherine Brown at kabrown@uni.edu.
