The Graduate College is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Douglas Mupasiri, Associate Professor of Mathematics, to a temporary part-time assignment in the Graduate College as Coordinator of Graduate Recruitment and Retention. Dr. Mupasiri is the longtime coordinator of the Alliance for Graduate Education and the Professoriate (AGEP) program in Mathematics, a program funded by the National Science Foundation to increase the number of minority PhDs in the sciences.
Dr. Mupasiri will be working with the Graduate Dean and others in the coming year on various strategies in the Graduate Education Strategic Plan to increase and retain the number of graduate students from groups under-represented in graduate education and to provide a supportive campus environment for all graduate students.
“I was honored to be appointed to the position of Coordinator of Graduate Minority Recruitment and Retention. Essentially my charge is to expand my role as director of the AGEP program at UNI to the larger graduate community,” said Dr. Mupasiri. “Dean Susan Koch is committed to building on the legacy that former Graduate Dean Dr. John Somervill left behind. I have pledged to Dean Koch and her team to do everything I can to help in this effort because I care passionately about this issue and because so much is at stake.”
