Interim Dean
Provides vision and direction for graduate education at UNI; oversees Graduate Assistantship allocations, graduate program administrations, graduate student recruitment and retention issues, minority student recruitment, fundraising, and development of scholarly activities to build an enduring graduate community at UNI.
"I conduct research in breast cancer, focusing on racial differences in treatment, survival, molecular markers and tumor characteristics, and economic issues of cancer treatment." |
Dr. Michael Licari

Interim Associate Dean for Graduate Academic Affairs
Processes graduate student requests, enforces policies on degree requirements and academic discipline, oversees the graduate curriculum process, and facilitates the granting of graduate college awards. Students should contact Dr. Licari with questions about degree requirements or student requests that their advisor or program coordinator is unable to answer.
Dr. Licari enjoys fishing, model rocketry, and model railroading, all with his son Daniel. |
Susie Schwieger

Director of Graduate Student Life
Develops and directs the Graduate Student Life Program, a comprehensive student services program. Included in her responsibilities are graduate student orientation, career services, professional development activities, marketing, and recruitment and retention. In addition, Susie is the advisor to the Graduate Student Advisory Board and the Graduate Student Social Network.
She enjoys walking, writing, and travel. |
Janet Witt

Thesis/Dissertation Reviewer
Meets with each thesis/dissertation writer to discuss formatting, paper requirements, deadlines, etc. Guides students through total submission process. Receives and reviews completed theses, dissertations, and required forms for compliance with guidelines. "I enjoy working directly with the students and hope I can help make the final submission of their thesis or dissertation a little less stressful."
She enjoys needlework, reading, shopping, and visiting her daughter in Utah. She has two children. Her 5th grandchild is due in October. |
Machelle Stickler

Secretary II
Acts as liaison between Graduate College staff and various constituency groups regarding inquiries and complaints. Provides administrative assistance to the Dean and Associate Dean of the Graduate College. Assists with administration of Graduate Awards. Facilitates workshops and meetings. Updates and maintains Graduate College Website.
She enjoys gardening, horseback riding, bowling, reading, and playing with her grandchildren. |
Mary Ann Hesse

Secretary IV
Responsible for fiscal/budget management for the Graduate Assistant Stipend and Graduate Tuition Scholarship funds. Advises university offices and students concerning guidelines and procedures for making stipend/scholarship appointments. Assists faculty and students in accessing and utilizing various Graduate Student and Faculty funds. Develops and maintains Graduate College web site and web server.
Interests include cross-stitching, bowling, and watching baseball. |

Graduation Celebration for December Graduates
The Graduate College and the Office of Alumni Relations are co-sponsoring the Graduation Celebration for December 2008 graduates following the graduation ceremony on December 20. The Graduation Celebration is for graduates, their families and friends and faculty and staff. It will be held in the Alumni Suite of the McLeod Center. Graduates will receive an invitation via their UNI email in November. |

The Campus-Wide Graduate Student Research Symposium will be held on April 1, 2009 at the Gallagher-Bluedorn Performing Arts Center. All graduate students, including December 2008 graduates, are invited to participate.

Publish Your Research on a Global Scale
Keep your graduate research paper in the spotlight with the help of the Rod Library Digital Collections. Placing an electronic copy of your research paper in the Rod Library Digital Collections allows your work to reach across the globe, wherever an Internet connection is available. Check out the Rod Library Digital Collections web site for examples of digitized research papers, along with an ever-expanding variety of UNI, Cedar Valley, and Iowa historical items.

New WGS Graduate Certificate
The new Women's and Gender Studies (WGS) Graduate Certificate will enhance student awareness of gender as a factor in a wide-array of programs of study. This program is designed for students currently enrolled in any graduate program at UNI. The WGS Graduate Certificate requires 12 credit hours, with course options drawing from both the Colleges of Social and Behavioral Sciences and Humanities and Fine Arts in addition to an optional experiential component.

IAF Funding Changes for 2008-09
The Intercollegiate Academics Fund (IAF) is funded by Student Activity Fee monies and is used to support academic travel and research experiences for students. Available funding amounts for students and groups have changed for the 2008-09 school year.
Information about those changes and application forms for funding are posted on the Executive Vice President and Provost Office’s website.
