Katherine Brown
Katherine Brown is in her first year of the MA TESOL program. She is also working on teaching licensure in ESL with a Secondary English Endorsement through the College of Education. She received BAs in English and Theatre Arts with a Vocal Music Minor from the University of Iowa in 2003. After graduation she moved to Allentown, Pennsylvania for a year-long theatre internship doing educational outreach. For three years she worked at the Sellersville Theater 1894 as the Production and House Manager.

Her role in the Graduate College focuses on editing The Graffito. She also serves on the Graduate Student Advisory Board and works with Brock and Ken on various events and activities. Contact her with announcements, achievements, events, and general interest stories related to Graduate School Life for inclusion in future issues.
Katherine sings and acts, most recently in the Waterloo Community Playhouse production of Into the Woods as Cinderella’s Stepmother. She continues to improve her French and Chinese language skills. During her undergraduate work she studied for a year in Hull, England. Currently around campus, she is part of GSAB, GSSN, the Multicultural Teaching Alliance, and the CIEP Conversation Partner program. She plans on teaching English abroad after graduation.

Brock Holman
Brock Holman is in his second year of the Postsecondary Education: Student Affairs program. He received a BA in Elementary Education from UNI in 2005. He is part of the Executive Leadership of UNI Student Personnel Association, on the Program Committee for the Iowa Student Personnel Association conference, and a Student Admissions Ambassador. He is also a member of the Iowa Student Personnel Association and has given 10 years of Volunteer Service to the Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership program for high school sophomores.

Brock’s assistantship focuses on the Graduate Student Advisory Board, an action and policy based advisory group to the Graduate College. He wants to help create positive, memorable experiences for students. Brock is hoping to continue building upon the great accomplishments of last year.
Brock loves travelling, especially meeting new, random people at airports. He played a pirate in a high school musical. After graduation, he hopes to find a rewarding position helping students in areas of Admissions, Career Services, Student Activities, and Student Leadership.

Ken Nesbett
Ken Nesbett is in his first year of the Post-Secondary: Student Affairs program. He graduated from the University of Toledo in December 2007 with a BA in History and a BE in Secondary Education. At UT, he served 3 years as a senator with the undergraduate Student Government Experience, wrote columns for the student newspaper, and was a member of Kappa Delta Rho fraternity. Ken is also a 5 year Camp Adventure veteran. This year alone, he has been to 17 countries in 3 continents through Camp Adventure.

Ken’s Graduate Student Life assistantship is to enhance life on and off campus for graduate students. He is the Coordinator the Graduate Student Social Network (GSSN). Talk to him about social events and graduate student community development ideas.
Ken is currently a member of the UNI Student Personnel Association. He chose UNI because it “felt like the right fit.” He was impressed that UNI is ranked second in the Midwest top public comprehensive universities by U.S. News and World Report. His friends “think I am crazy that I am still in college. They call me Van Wilder. I say it is a life choice!” He hopes to continue to enjoy life and be involved in whatever community he lives in.
