Inaugural Campus-Wide Graduate Student Research Symposium

Research Symosium Program of Participants

Forty-seven presenters representing numerous programs from across campus participated in the Inaugural Campus-Wide Graduate Student Research Symposium on April 7 in the Seerley Hall Great Reading Room. Participants showcased their work through oral poster, and music presentations. Symposium presenters had the opportunity to share their experiences with students from other programs and network with participants and members of the UNI community. Thank you to all who helped make this first year of the Campus-Wide Graduate Student Research Symposium a success! We look forward to seeing you again at the 2009 Campus-Wide Graduate Student Research Symposium.

Gerilynn Toresdahl, Master's student in TESOL/Modern Languages, presented her work entitled, Differences in Teachers' and Students' Perceptions Concerning Prescriptivism and Descriptivism.

Scott Larson discussed his work with Symposium attendees. Scott's research was titled Ecological Niche Modeling of Potential West Nile Virus Vector Mosquito Species in Iowa Using GIS.

Participant Anil Shrestha
Anil Shrestha, Master's student in the Environmental Science program, presented his research, Agricultural Runoff from an Intermittent Tribuaries System in Black Hawk County, Iowa.

Faculty, staff, family, and friends all attended in support of graduate student research.
Participant Debrah Fordice
Participant Debrah Fordice, Doctoral candidate in Curriculum and Instruction, spoke with President Allen about her research, Thriving, Coping, Surviving, and Hoping: Negotiating the First Year of Teaching.
