After nearly two years of renovation, the former Physics Building was rededicated as Begemen Hall on October 5th. Constructed in 1907, the 100 year old building was referred to by various names such as the "Laboratory Building," "Science Hall," "Physical Science Laboratory," and the "Science Building." Then in 1975, the building was officially named the Physics Building.
The newly renovated Begeman Hall has been significantly updated and equipped with modern technology and resources that will allow students and faculty great opportunities to enhance their learning, teaching skills and research capabilities. Also included in the renovation are five new teaching laboratories, two lecture rooms, a computer lab, five student/faculty research labs, a student lounge, loading dock, new elevator, and for the first time in 100 years, modern restroom facilities on all four floor levels.
The renovation also included areas of Lang Hall, adjacent to Begemen Hall, which were remodeled into new science laboratories and support areas. These areas will be used for hands-on learning opportunities for students and faculty, as well as in training high-school teachers. These areas are home to the Center for Education in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology and the Carver General Physics Studio Laboratory.
