Sarah Kos, a second year graduate student in the School Counseling program at UNI and former point guard for the UNI women's basketball team, is the Graduate College's newest Graduate Assistant and editor of The Graffito. Sarah comments on her experience thus far saying, "It is a new challenge for me, but fun as well. I am enjoying getting to know everyone here at the Graduate College and am looking forward to the rest of the year."

Sarah will also help plan and organize graduate student events and activities, as well as actively participate as a member of the Graduate Student Advisory Board. Sarah is also a member of the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) and the Iowa School Counselor Association (ISCA). Outside of academics, Sarah enjoys being with her family and friends, tailgating, watching sporting events, fishing, staying active, playing card/board games, and being outdoors.

Sarah began her undergraduate career at UNI where she majored in Psychology, minored in Communications and was also a contributing member and two year co-captain on the UNI women's basketball team. After she was awarded a medical redshirt as a sophomore, Sarah was given a fifth year to play for the Panthers and thus decided to begin her graduate work in the School Counseling program. Now in her second year in the program, Sarah has taken on the challenge as a Graduate Assistant. “I have had many excellent experiences here at UNI and am looking forward to many more challenging and fun opportunities I will have as a Graduate Assistant."

When asked why she chose UNI for graduate school Sarah said, "After completing my basketball career, I decided to stay at UNI because the School Counseling program here is one of the best. The program certifies graduate students K-12 and provides excellent preparation and real-life experiences, unique from many other programs."

After graduating, Sarah plans to work as a School Counselor in an area school near her hometown and possibly coach volleyball and basketball. Her words of wisdom to new and current graduate students are "Keep a balanced lifestyle. Of course working hard on your studies is important, but maybe even more important is taking the time to relax and enjoy life and those around you."
